JOST VAN DYKE

Jost Van Dyke is  probably the most laid back island, with inviting  restaurants, bars, beautiful beaches and even a challenging walk for the more athletic.

Great Harbor is the home of the famous Foxy's, a humble beach bar and restaurant with loads of character.  On occasion Foxy himself will play at happy hour and entertain you with songs and stories of the many people he has met in his travels. Foxy's infamous New Year's Eve party has quickly gained popularity in far off places.  A New York Post journalist once wrote that there were only three places in the world to be on New Year's Eve: Times Square, New York; Trafalgar Square, London; and Foxy's on Jost Van Dyke. Lining the beach at Great Harbor are a variety of other, equally colorful, bars and restaurants.

Little Harbor is a small cove that boasts several bars and restaurants such as Sidney's Peace and Love and Harris' Place which have become a must-do destination for many.

White Bay is a stunning crescent shaped beach with a shallow sandy bottomed water.  The color of the water is pure aqua!  More bars and restaurants line the bay, the most famous of which, Soggy Dollar Bar is the home of the painkiller.  Years ago, before there was electricity on Jost, the Soggy Dollar made Pina Coladas on the rocks.  One day someone added orange juice to the mix by accident and voila, the Painkiller was born!  There is no dock at White Bay but we anchor close to the beach and it is a short swim and of course, the bar has no problem with the soggy dollars!  It is lovely to spend an afternoon lazing in one of the hammocks or lounge chairs, sipping on a Painkiller and playing the Soggy Dollars' beach/bar games.  Don't miss the Flying Fish Sandwich served al fresco at the Soggy Dollar.

Great Harbor and White Bay also sport small shops set among the palm trees.  Here you can find a great variety of  unique island clothing and gifts.

For the adventurous, there is a wonderfully challenging road to walk.  It stretches from White Bay to Little Harbor winding  up and down several hills steep enough to get the heart  up to your target rate!   Strap on your tennis shoes, slather on plenty of sunblock and carry a bottle of water!
